Braces For Tooth Alignment Problems From Thumb Sucking

According to the American Dental Association, thumb sucking causes jaw and or tooth alignment problems, so many of times patients are referred to an orthodontist, like Dr. Tyler Robison of Robison orthodontics for orthodontic treatment. When a person develops jaw and or tooth alignment problems and they don’t seek orthodontic treatment, they most likely will develop additional oral health issues e.g. tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, jaw problems, abnormal wearing of tooth enamel and or affected speech and or chewing issues.

Dr. Tyler Robison specializes in early orthodontic treatment. The goal of early orthodontic treatment is to correct the growth of the jaw as well as certain bite issues.

Abnormal bites typically become noticeable between the ages of 6 and 12, orthodontic treatment often begins between ages 8 and 14. Orthodontic treatment that begins while a child is growing helps produce optimal results. That doesn’t mean that adults can’t have braces; healthy teeth can be orthodontically treated at any age.

If you would like more information about early orthodontic treatment, please give us a call. Robison Orthodontics is proud to offer a free initial orthodontic consultation.
