Robison Orthodontics Mesa AZ Cheeks and Lips Irritation with Dental Brace

 Orthodontic Emergencies

Orthodontic Emergencies are rare and here at Robison Orthodontics we want you to be prepared if anything should go wrong or happen while wearing your Dental Braces. Usually you can fix the problem from your home but there are cases where you would need to call our office and try to get in especially if your scheduled appointment isn’t for a while.

Irritation of Cheeks or Lips

There aren’t a lot of issues that could go wrong while wearing Dental Braces however, appliances may break or move during orthodontic treatment. Troubles such as loose bands or brackets, broken or poking archwires are not normally considered true orthodontic emergencies, and do not require you to be seen in our office outside of our regular business hours.

Your Dental Braces can sometimes irritate your cheeks and lips especially when you’re eating.  Knowing how to fix the problem or when it’s time to call Dr. Robison for an appointment is crucial you don’t want to further prolong your treatment.  Orthodontic wax makes an excellent barrier between the braces and cheeks, lips, and tongue. Simply pinch off a small piece wax and roll it into a ball, then flatten the ball and place it completely over the irritating area. Drying the area first can help the wax stick better.
