E-Space Lower Holding Arch Robison Orthodontics Mesa AZ

Orthodontic Braces E-Space Lower Holding Arch

The E-space lower holding arch is a space maintainer, it keeps your molars from moving forward and prevents them from blocking the space where your adult teeth are supposed to come in. Dr. Robison uses the E-space lower holding arch appliance mostly on children who have lost their teeth too early and in need of  preventive dental care. The E-space lower holding arch is almost always followed by Dental Braces.

E-space lower holding arch is made up of two metal bands attached to your lower molars connected by a wire that runs along the inside of your lower teeth to keep your molars from moving and blocking the space where your Adult permanent teeth are supposed to come in. The E-space lower holding arch is not removable,

You should avoid sticky or hard food. Sticky food can loosen your appliance and hard food can break it.
As always good oral hygiene, brushing twice daily and keeping you appliance clean will help ensure the success of the E-space lower holding arch.
For the first few days you should speak out loud so your tongue gets used to it. A special wax is given if the band bugs your cheeks.

Orthodontic Self-Ligating Brackets In Gilbert AZ

Orthodontic Self-Ligating Bracket Device

Self-Ligating Brackets have many advantages over traditional brackets. Self-Ligating brackets don’t require the use of bands or ties. Although Dr.Robison uses In-Ovation, there are many different types of Self-Ligating Brackets.
Today's Self-Ligating brackets use a special clip instead of bands or ties to assit the archwire in guiding the teeth into place. Since there is no need for band or ties, the amount of adjustments is reduced; also the amount of pressure on your teeth is reduced.

The Two types of Orthodontic Self-Ligating Brackets:

Passive brackets have a smaller archwire, so there is less friction and your teeth are able to move more freely. Passive brackets are mostly used at the beginning of treatment so the teeth can start moving into position.

Active brackets have a much thicker archwire. The thicker archwire aggressively moves teeth into place, while applying greater pressure to your teeth. The active bracket also provides you with more control for constant strong results.

Usually, Self-Ligating brackets are made from stainless steel, only in certain cases are they made of
ceramic, polycarbonate or other FDA approved materials. Self-Ligating brackets are glued to the teeth, they are not removable until your treatment is over. **As with all dental appliances regular cleaning, and not too many sugar laden foods or drinks.

Self-Ligating brackets are a precursor for braces treatment. Dr. Robison will determine what type of dental appliance and if you need orthodontic braces.

How to Floss With Braces From Orthodontist Dr. Brent Tyler Robison

There are many children and teens (and some adults) that don't know how to floss with braces. Or they have the misconception that they cannot floss at all if they have braces. But that's not the case at all.  In fact, daily flossing is especially important during orthodontic treatment because you're more likely to have food particles trapped in the braces, bands and wires, which could increase your risk of cavities.

Robison Orthodontics has some helpful tips below for flossing with braces.

You can use “Super Floss” or regular dental floss with a floss threader.

A floss threader will help you get the dental floss underneath your archwires.

Tear off about 18 inches of dental floss and pull it through the loop of the floss threader.

Insert the pointed end of the bridge threader gently underneath your archwire. Pull it all the way through until the floss is under your archwire.

“Super Floss” dental floss with a stiff end is also available. It is pre-cut and is very easy to insert underneath archwires.

Simply take the stiff end of the dental floss and insert it underneath your archwire. Pull it gently through.

Once the dental floss is inserted, gently floss in between your teeth.

When you are flossing in between your teeth, remember to gently floss up and down under the gums.

Be sure to floss all of your teeth including the back ones.
