Orthodontic Self-Ligating Bracket Device
Self-Ligating Brackets have many advantages over traditional brackets. Self-Ligating brackets don’t require the use of bands or ties. Although Dr.Robison uses In-Ovation, there are many different types of Self-Ligating Brackets.Today's Self-Ligating brackets use a special clip instead of bands or ties to assit the archwire in guiding the teeth into place. Since there is no need for band or ties, the amount of adjustments is reduced; also the amount of pressure on your teeth is reduced.
The Two types of Orthodontic Self-Ligating Brackets:
Passive brackets have a smaller archwire, so there is less friction and your teeth are able to move more freely. Passive brackets are mostly used at the beginning of treatment so the teeth can start moving into position.Active brackets have a much thicker archwire. The thicker archwire aggressively moves teeth into place, while applying greater pressure to your teeth. The active bracket also provides you with more control for constant strong results.

Usually, Self-Ligating brackets are made from stainless steel, only in certain cases are they made of
ceramic, polycarbonate or other FDA approved materials. Self-Ligating brackets are glued to the teeth, they are not removable until your treatment is over. **As with all dental appliances regular cleaning, and not too many sugar laden foods or drinks.
Self-Ligating brackets are a precursor for braces treatment. Dr. Robison will determine what type of dental appliance and if you need orthodontic braces.
